Supporting Individuals with Opioid Use Disorder: Treatment Support Services
Course Description:
This course is designed
to inform you about treatment options available for individuals with opioid use
disorder (OUD) and your role in supporting their recovery.
You will learn about the
impact stigma has on treatment and recovery, and explore best practices and
helpful strategies for fostering effective partnerships as part of a treatment
team. A variety of treatment and recovery approaches are covered so that you
come away with a better understanding of how to best support an individual in
their recovery journey.
With an emphasis on
evidence-based treatment and support principles, this course highlights the
potential for all individuals—regardless of what led them to opioid use—to
recover with adequate support.
NOTE: This course contains a pre-assessment that must be completed before you can begin the course. Your pre-assessment score will be used for course evaluation purposes only and does NOT count against course completion if a passing score is not achieved.
Course Objective:
- Explain key principles that can help support individuals with opioid use disorder.
- Discuss the different treatment options available for individuals with OUD in the District of Columbia
- Determine ways to foster an effective partnership with other members of the support team
- Analyze strategies each member of the support team can use to effectively support an individual with OUD
Intended Audience:
The intended audience for this course includes:- Those in the helping profession, including substance use treatment professionals and peers, who work with individuals in treatment for an opioid use disorder (OUD).
- Members of the treatment team
- Family, friends, and support systems of individuals who may be seeking treatment for OUD.
