This virtual course will provide an overview of Motivational Interviewing (MI), an evidence-based practice based on person-centered counseling principles. MI is used in an array of healthcare settings and provides the treating professional with the core skills and principles to appropriately respond and engage the individual toward behavior change. Motivational Interviewing is a powerful and effective tool to help individuals discover their own reasons for behavior change.

Objective:

1.     Define Motivational Interviewing

2.     Describe the three primary goals of Motivational Interviewing

3.     Identify the type of change talk as either preparatory or mobilizing change talk

4.     Process Motivational Interview techniques of reflective listening and asking questions to scenarios

5.     Distinguish between the four tasks that practitioners can use to guide a Motivational Interview

Intended Audience:


Behavioral Health Professionals/healthcare workers, social workers, counselors/therapists.

Requirements for Successful Completion

Participants are expected to attend and actively participate throughout the entire course to receive a completion certificate.
