Description:
Recognizing and Responding to Suicide Risk: Essential Skills for Clinicians(RRSR) is an advanced, interactive training based on established core competencies that behavioral health professionals need in order to effectively assess and manage suicide risk. The program includes: a web-based assessment, a two-day face-to-face workshop and a competency-based curriculum derived from empirical evidence and best-practices.
Objective:
  1. Identify and document warning signs of suicide risk
  2. Initiate a conversation about suicide using two interviewing techniques to facilitate open communication about the topic
  3. Gain knowledge about three research-based approaches for clinical work with suicidal outpatients
  4. Describe a method for eliciting suicidal ideation called the Chronological Assessment of Suicide Events (CASE Approach)
  5. Develop a written treatment and services plan that addresses the client's suicide ideation and immediate, short-term and continuing risk for suicidal behaviors

Driving Directions:
64 New York Avenue is located at the intersection of Florida, New York and First Streets, NE. Metro: Take the red line to the Noma/Gallaudet University (previously called New York Avenue) metro stop. Walk west on N Street and turn right at 1st Street NE. Cross over New York Avenue. You will see a large clock tower with the number 64. Enter through the gate and walk toward the first entrance of the building.
Parking:
There is a small parking lot with very limited available spaces. However, there is street parking in the blocks adjacent to 64 NY Avenue, but be mindful of posted restrictions.
