Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming behavioral healthcare and creating new opportunities to strengthen prevention, early intervention, and population health. As communities face increasing rates of mental health conditions and substance use disorders alongside persistent workforce shortages, AI-enabled technologies are emerging as tools to expand access to prevention resources, personalize health education, identify individuals at elevated risk, and improve connections to care.

This introductory session provides an overview of AI and digital health technologies and their growing role in behavioral health prevention. Participants will learn the fundamentals of AI, explore current and emerging applications in mental health and substance use prevention, and discuss how AI can support prevention professionals, healthcare organizations, schools, public health agencies, and community organizations. The session will also address ethical considerations, privacy, fairness, and practical implementation strategies to help organizations responsibly integrate AI into prevention efforts.
