THC & Teens: Turning Science into Smart Prevention Webinar Series Overview
As legalization expands and access to high-potency THC products increases, prevention practitioners need updated knowledge and practical tools to address emerging risks. This webinar equips participants with the latest research on THC’s impact on adolescent brain development, effective policy approaches at the local and organizational levels, and communication frameworks to engage youth in informed, motivational conversations about cannabis use.

Part 1: December 2, 2025 1:00pm – 2:30pm (1.25 credits)
Part 1 of this series focuses on the rapidly changing cannabis policy environment and its implications for youth prevention. Participants will examine the latest research on THC and other cannabinoids, including their effects on adolescent brain development and overall youth health. The session will also cover cannabis-related risk and protective factors, equipping participants with evidence-based insights to inform prevention efforts. Emphasis will be placed on how these scientific and environmental factors connect to prevention strategies that are responsive to the realities in local communities.

Part 2: December 4, 2025 1:00pm – 2:30pm (1.25 credits)
Part 2 of this series focuses on translating research into local action. Participants will explore how municipal and organizational policies can prevent youth cannabis use, learn to craft effective position statements, and identify strategies for policy change within schools, healthcare, and community settings. The session also introduces the Elicit–Provide–Elicit model of Motivational Interviewing, giving participants tools to navigate real-life conversations with youth about cannabis. Through interactive discussion and practice activities, prevention professionals will strengthen their ability to apply science-based approaches that protect young people and promote healthier communities.

  1. Describe the effects of THC and other cannabinoids on adolescent brain development and youth health outcomes
  2. Identify at least four risk factors and four protective factors that influence youth cannabis use.
