Description:

This training will provide an overview of Motivational Interviewing (MI), an evidence-based practice based on person-centered counseling principles. MI is used in an array of healthcare settings and provides the treating professional with the core skills and principles to appropriately respond and engage the individual toward behavior change. Motivational Interviewing is a powerful and effective tool to help individuals discover their own reasons for behavior change.

Objective:

At the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  1. Define Motivational Interviewing
  2. Describe the three primary goals of Motivational Interviewing
  3. Identify the type of change talk as either preparatory or mobilizing change talk
  4. Apply Motivational Interview techniques of reflective listening and asking questions to scenarios 
  5. Distinguish between the four tasks that practitioners can use to guide a Motivational Interview

Intended Audience:

Behavioral health professionals, healthcare workers, social workers, counselors, and therapists.

*Requirements for Successful Completion*

This is a two-day training. In order to receive continuing education contact hours, you must log in on time and stay for the full duration of the training on both days. Partial credit will not be awarded.
