Description:
Xylazine, an animal tranquilizer that has been added to the opioid drug supply, is affecting clients and providers in novel ways.  Understanding how the substance works in one’s system, the challenges of associated wounds, and its resistance to naloxone are realities that providers must understand to tailor their practice and interventions.  This event will support a deepening of recognition of the function and impact of this new substance and its impact on the field of Behavioral Health.  Registration will close 24 hours before the lecture. 
Objective:

At the end of this training participants will be able to:

1.      Describe the recent qualitative and quantitative data related to provider experience in provision of prevention and treatment service to people using Xylazine. 

2.       Recite at least four ways Xylazine has changed the treatment realities for people seeking care and the challenging impact that has had on provider’s sense of agency and effectiveness.

Explain how these changes may affect their professional efforts and clinical interventions and what opportunities exist to better support clients using Xylazine.
