Description:

This training provides an overview of common mental health and substance-related disorders. It will help both clinicians and non-clinicians recognize common signs of mental health and substance use disorders, distinguish the do’s and don’ts of engagement with people in crisis, and identify community resources to make an effective referral for appropriate care.

Objective:
At the end of this training, participants will be able to: 

  1. Define behavioral health and how it impacts a person’s well-being 
  2. Explain the impact of stigma on people that experience mental health and substance use disorders
  3. Describe symptoms of common mental health and substance use disorders
  4. Describe engagement techniques that can be used to support someone with a behavioral health disorder 
  5. Define recovery and its guiding principles
  6. Identify available community supports and resources
Intended Audience:
This course is intended for anyone within the behavioral health community seeking to learn about behavioral health and substance use disorders including consumers, family members, Peers, and practitioners. It is not intended for individuals with advanced knowledge of behavioral health.
