This Course is designed to provide a foundation for understanding and treating PTSD. Dr. Preston, a Neuro Psychologist , outlines prevalence, risk and resilience factors; then describes research findings regarding the underlying neurobiology as well as validated treatment strategies.

The focus is on processing of traumatic experiences, reducing nightmares, specific affect management techniques, pharmacology. Including lessons learned since 9-11.

1) To refine diagnostic skills for rapid assessment of PTSD

2) To describe the psychopharmacologic treatments for acute PTSD

3) Identify known predictors of PTSD

4) Explain of the role of the amagdyla in the human response to fear
