Course Description:
This course discusses the diagnosis and treatment of ADHD in adults. Includes a brief update on DSM-5 criteria for ADHD diagnosis.
Course Objective:
Upon completing this program, participants should be able to:
  • Discuss the DSM diagnostic criteria for ADHD in adults; and
  • Explain important limitations in the diagnostic criteria for ADHD relative to adults.
Author Bio:
Diane Johnson, PhD, received her doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Following a two-year NIAAA-funded postdoctoral research fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina, where she studied the comorbidity of adult ADHD and alcoholism, Dr. Johnson was an Associate Research Scientist in the Department of Psychiatry, Yale University School of Medicine, and she served as the Associate Director of the Dual Diagnosis Program at the Substance Abuse Center, Connecticut Mental Health Center. She also held the position of Assistant Professor in the Division of Medical Psychology, Department of Psychiatry, Duke University Medical Center.  She is currently Adjunct Psychology Faculty at Bryant & Stratton College in Eastlake, OH. Her research interests include the assessment and treatment of ADHD across the life span, neuropsychological functioning in adults with ADHD, and the comorbidity of ADHD with other psychiatric disorders, particularly substance abuse.
