Description:
How we refer to, speak to, and document the experiences of consumers affects how we connect and treat them. This training will help practitioners understand the immediate and lasting impact that stigma can have on treatment and recovery from substance misuse and prevention.
Objective:
  1. Identify ways word choice and emphasis can result in stigmatized care for those living with substance misuse issues
  2. Discuss how stigmatizing language causes barriers and social injuries to vulnerable populations
  3. Demonstrate how to compassionately capture consumer’s experiences in  documentation, verbal communication and relevant correspondence to reduce the barriers and stigma experienced in care
Intended Audience:
Health and human service workers including clinicians, case managers, peer counselors, outreach workers, and support staff. 
Session Notes:
This training is in partnership with the Central East PTTC and will be held as a live webinar on Zoom. The Central East PTTC is managed by The Danya Institute. Zoom login information will be sent, from the Danya Institute, to all registered participants at least one day in advance of the training.
