Description:
The Child and Adolescent Functional Assessment Scale (CAFAS)allows the clinician to objectively assess the degree of impairment inschool-aged youth with emotional, behavioral, psychiatric, or substance useproblems. Use of the CAFAS will enhance the ability of Psychologists,Counselors and Social Workers to identify the types and degrees of functionalimpairments, making it a valuable clinical tool. This seminar provides detailedtraining on the uses of the CAFAS; the guidelines and scoring principals aswell as a complete explanation of the scoring of each of the subscales. Thistraining includes interactive quizzes on each subscale and the ReliabilityVignettes, which include mentoring and will be scored on-site. Training/scoring guidelines, tips and strategies will bepresented. Participants can anticipate passing Reliability testing and becominga confident trainer.
Objective:

1. Describe the importance of the CAFAS as a research-basedtool, with proven validity and reliability.

2. Define the research and clinical uses of the CAFAS,including age ranges and appropriate clinical settings. 

 3. List the general rules of scoring the CAFAS and thespecific scoring guidelines for each subscale.

4. Successfully scoreParticipant’s Reliability Tests and maintain the reliability status of your trainees.

5. Explainhow to use the skills learned in scoring the CAFAS in your clinical work

Driving Directions:
64 New York Avenue is located at the intersection of Florida, New York and First Streets, NE. Metro: Take the red line to the Noma/Gallaudet University (previously called New York Avenue) metro stop. Walk west on N Street and turn right at 1st Street NE. Cross over New York Avenue. You will see a large clock tower with the number 64. Enter through the gate and walk toward the first entrance of the building.
Parking:
There are three parking lots for attendees that charge between $9-12, regardless of duration. The two outside lots only accept cash payment. There is also street parking in the blocks adjacent to 64 NY Avenue, but be mindful of posted restrictions.
