Description:

This course is only open to supervisors, trainers, QI and other management-level employees.

The course is designed to provide a structure for implementing and teaching others the core skills and principles of Motivational Interviewing. Motivational Interviewing is a collaborative, person-centered approach to treatment designed to strengthen personal motivation for behavior change. This training will provide behavioral health professionals with the skills to help establish interactive communications which promote the process for behavior change. Through interactive activities, attendees will become equipped to recognize and utilize the clinical techniques, and practical application of Motivational Interviewing. The second day of the training is the teach back portion where attendees will learn how to train their coworkers in the core skills and principles of Motivational Interviewing.

Objective:
  1. Describe the concept of motivation and the change process.
  2. Identify the core skills of Motivational Interviewing.
  3. Explain the relationship between motivational interviewingand stages of change.
  4. Identify the four (4) principles of MotivationalInterviewing.
  5. Review Principles of Adult Learning.
  6. Demonstrate successful facilitation of a 20 minute"Teach-Back" presentation on the clinical application of the core skills andprinciples of Motivational Interviewing.

Driving Directions:
64 New York Avenue is located at the intersection of Florida, New York and First Streets, NE. Metro: Take the red line to the Noma/Gallaudet University (previously called New York Avenue) metro stop. Walk west on N Street and turn right at 1st Street NE. Cross over New York Avenue. You will see a large clock tower with the number 64. Enter through the gate and walk toward the first entrance of the building.
Parking:
There are three parking lots for attendees that charge between $9-12, regardless of duration. The two outside lots only accept cash payment. There is also street parking in the blocks adjacent to 64 NY Avenue, but be mindful of posted restrictions.
