Description:

This training will be an introduction to the concepts of trauma-informed care for direct service practitioners who serve both adults and children. Areas of focus include the principles of trauma-informed services, integrating care of the worker, and overcoming barriers to developing services that are more responsive to trauma survivors. Through an experiential exercise, attendees will develop strategies for developing trauma-informed services in their own settings, and will leave with a plan for their own self-care.

Objective:
  1. Explain the key assumptions and principles of trauma-informed approaches.
  2. List at least two of the ten implementation domains for creating trauma-informed services.
  3. Identify barriers to creating trauma-informed care and develop strategies to overcome those obstacles.
  4. Develop a self-care plan to address vicarious trauma.

Driving Directions:
64 New York Avenue is located at the intersection of Florida, New York and First Streets, NE. Metro: Take the red line to the Noma/Gallaudet University (previously called New York Avenue) metro stop. Walk west on N Street and turn right at 1st Street NE. Cross over New York Avenue. You will see a large clock tower with the number 64. Enter through the gate and walk toward the entrance in the middle of the building, which is the second building entrance.
Parking:
There are three parking lots for attendees that charge between $7-10, regardless of duration. They only accept cash payment. There is also street parking in the blocks adjacent to 64 NY Avenue, but be mindful of posted restrictions.
