Description:
This course will update participants' knowledge of HIV disease--in light of the ongoing challenges of stigma and social determinants of health--and will encourage fresh approaches to working with clients, emphasizing recent scientific advancements in treatment and prevention like PEP, PREP,TasP, and U=U. Recent epidemiologic data from the US and DC will be presented. Curious about this alphabet soup?   Feel like your HIV knowledge stalled out in the 90's?   Come freshen up!
Objective:
  1. Define current basic terminology and concepts related to HIV prevention and treatment.
  2. Explain the impact of stigma and social determinants of health on HIV prevention and treatment.
  3. Apply understanding of bio-medical advances to inform working w/clients around disclosure, adherence and prevention.
  4. Describe ways of working with clients from a sex-positive and harm reduction approach.

Driving Directions:
64 New York Avenue is located at the intersection of Florida, New York and First Streets, NE. Metro: Take the red line to the Noma/Gallaudet University (previously called New York Avenue) metro stop. Walk west on N Street and turn right at 1st Street NE. Cross over New York Avenue. You will see a large clock tower with the number 64. Enter through the gate and walk toward the first entrance of the building.
Parking:
There is a small parking lot with very limited available spaces. However, there is street parking in the blocks adjacent to 64 NY Avenue, but be mindful of posted restrictions.
