Description:

Participants will receive an overview of the classification of common drugs of abuse and receive an overview of the relationship between mental illness and how drugs of abuse mimic and mask signs and symptoms of mental illness. It will also include an overview of mental health and substance use services and the criteria for the agency designations “Co-Occurring Capable” and “Co-Occurring Enhanced.”

Objective:

1.      Define terms associated with substance use disorders, mental disorders, and co-occurring disorders.

2.      Review the relationship between drugs of abuse and mental illness.

3.      Differentiate between “Co-Occurring Capable” and “Co-Occurring Enhanced”

4.      Identify mental health and substance use services for both adults and children and enhancements due to the DBH merger

5.      Describe eligibility and referral process for mental health  and substance use services

Please note, this training is not intended for clinicians who already have substantial knowledge of co-occurring disorders.

Driving Directions:
64 New York Avenue is located at the intersection of Florida, New York and First Streets, NE. Metro: Take the red line to the Noma/Gallaudet University (previously called New York Avenue) metro stop. Walk west on N Street and turn right at 1st Street NE. Cross over New York Avenue. You will see a large clock tower with the number 64. Enter through the gate and walk toward the first entrance of the building.
Parking:
There are three parking lots for attendees that charge between $9-12, regardless of duration. The two outside lots only accept cash payment. There is also street parking in the blocks adjacent to 64 NY Avenue, but be mindful of posted restrictions.
