This training will present cultural competency and strength-based engagement in CBI practice. The training will cover the following areas: utilizing resiliency as an overarching framework for strength-based practice; stigma and mental health; developing effective partnerships with youth and families; culturally competent CBI practice, and strategies for respectful engagement with youth, families, and extended family members. This workshop will also present coaching skills for resiliency-oriented parenting for youth with serious emotional disabilities.

Objective:

1.       Operationalize youth and family voice and choice in their daily practice.

2.       Describe the effects of stigma and mental illness on youth and families.

3.       Implement a strengths-based, resiliency-oriented perspective that promotes respectful engagement with youth and families.

4.       Identify key aspects of culturally competent CBI practice.

5.       Implement coaching skills that facilitate resiliency-oriented parenting for youth with SED.
