Description:

The focus of this training is to educate mental health clinicians on the major changes from DSM-IV to DSM-5, including diagnosis-specific changes (e.g., criteria revisions) as well as broader, manual-wide changes (e.g., revised chapter ordering, use of dimensional assessments, integration of neuroscience and developmental material across the manual). The primary emphasis is on ensuring clinicians understand how these changes might impact patient care and knowing what modification might be necessary to implement these revisions in their practice.

Objective:

1.       List the primary significant changes in the classification of and diagnostic criteria for mental disorders from DSM-IV to DSM-5

2.       Discuss some of the major clinical modifications that might be needed to implement the major changes in DSM-5

3.       Describe some of the important research implications resulting from changes in DSM-5

4.       Transition from DSM IV to DSM 5 in a work setting

Driving Directions:
The hospital is located off Alabama Avenue in the Southeast section of Washington DC. It is also metro accessible via the green line at Congress Heights, which is located adjacent to the hospital.
Parking:
Turn right after passing the security guard near the front entrance of the hospital grounds. There will be a gravel parking lot on the right. After parking, exit the lot and walk right toward the new hospital building. The auditorium is located left of the reception desk after entering the hospital.
