Description:
This workshop will present relevant information on the technique of sandtray therapy including history, theoretical underpinnings, and practical matters such as role of therapist, introducing the technique to patients and parents, and rational for the set up and selection of the play materials.   Interactive and practical exercises will be used to help familiarize and practice the presented materials within the training as well.
Objective:
1.       Explain the history and theoretical underpinnings of the sandtray technique
2.        Identify the role of the therapist in the therapeutic process
3.        Identify the benefits of using sandtray therapy with children and adolescents
4.        Identify prerequisites and contraindications for the use of the technique 5.        Describe the stages of the sandtray process
6.        Identify at least four different applications of the sandtray technique in your practice

Driving Directions:
64 New York Avenue is located at the intersection of Florida, New York and First Streets, NE. Metro: Take the red line to the Noma/Gallaudet University (previously called New York Avenue) metro stop. Walk west on N Street and turn right at 1st Street NE. Cross over New York Avenue. You will see a large clock tower with the number 64. Enter through the gate and walk toward the first entrance of the building.
Parking:
There is a small parking lot with very limited available spaces. However, there is street parking in the blocks adjacent to 64 NY Avenue, but be mindful of posted restrictions.
