Description:
Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs) like Postpartum Depression are the most common complications of pregnancy. They affect up to20% of new mothers and 1/3 of low-income and immigrant women, yet they are poorly understood and few providers are trained and educated about them. Come learn from an expert psychotherapist, program manager and PPD survivor about the different types of PMADs, what the risk factors are, preferred interventions, how to talk to a mom who's suffering, and The Path to Wellness.  
Objective:
  1. Explain how different Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs) present and how to make a differential diagnosis;
  2. Describe the incidence and prevalence of PMADs, and their immediate and long-term effects on mother, child(ren), dyad and family;
  3. Identify the major risk factors for developing a PMAD;
  4. Explain how, when, and why to screen using a validated instrument;
  5. Describe what to do with a positive screen,including receiving a comprehensive review of available resources and services in DC and close-in suburbs;
  6. Explain how to talk to a new mom who is suffering;
Intended Audience:
Clinicians and Managers/Supervisors who work with reproductive-age women, their children and their families.

Driving Directions:
64 New York Avenue is located at the intersection of Florida, New York and First Streets, NE. Metro: Take the red line to the Noma/Gallaudet University (previously called New York Avenue) metro stop. Walk west on N Street and turn right at 1st Street NE. Cross over New York Avenue. You will see a large clock tower with the number 64. Enter through the gate and walk toward the first entrance of the building.
Parking:
There is a small parking lot with very limited available spaces. However, there is street parking in the blocks adjacent to 64 NY Avenue, but be mindful of posted restrictions.
